“Having swum 35 out of 40Kms of the distance between Mallorca and Menorca, Miquel Sunyer was stopped next to the support boat. He had been a swimmer since he was a small child, and one day he had moved out of the pool and did his first major open water distance swim, crossing the straights of Gibraltar with two friends.

He was tired and cold. His friend psychologist and physiotherapist , Bernat was talking to him and discussing whether to continue the swim.

All of a sudden, Miquel’s father, who had been sitting quietly all this time, came over to the edge of the boat and shouted: “Stop. Stop this discussion. Get out of the water or swim. Stop talking.”

Miquel tells how his father’s voice reached a deeper part of himself. Maybe only a father’s voice could have reached deep inside like that. Miquel was a small boy again, and the words of his father reached the last remaining energy. He started to swim again.”
